Photographic style, your brand, what makes you, you. Some of my favorite images are overloaded with amazing and wonderful props. Babies balanced in baskets, on scales, with adorable costumes, hair bows, and blankets. These are adorable works of art.
Then I go to the other extreme black and white, simple stark and stunning. No props no gadgets no anything, just subject and light. Where do I fall on the spectrum if props versus simplicity? I honestly can't say. I have a small hoard of props slowly filling up a coat closet and bookshelf, but I don't use them for every session. I like to think I fall somewhere in the middle, maybe not a prop in every shot but when they are appropriate and the subject is willing to interact with it. As I develop my style, my brand I hope to see a clear picture of my body of work, recognize my stamp on my pictures. What do you think props, or not?
