Sweet Saturday mornings

The Christmas Chaos is in full swing here at our home.  Late night parties for mom and dad, lots of time with grandmas, grandpas and baby sitters for the kiddos.  So for me sweet moments of family time are all the more precious right now. This Saturday morning, my husband had to go into the office, and my son (4), was drafted to go to the office with his buddy Pa. So it is just me and the girls here at the house this cold wintery morning.

Our oldest daughter is 6 years old and full of that sassy six year old attitude.  This morning is no exception to her delightful behavior complete with the ever popular wail of, " why do I always have to..." Fill in the blank with any reasonable task for a six year old, get dressed, eat breakfast, help your sister find something, you know all this dreadful things. Finally after a few verbal warnings, a timeout, a sit down talk and a come to Jesus moment she snapped out it briefly.

The baby is two, and like most two year olds has no understanding of personal space, people's limits of answering the same question fifty times, and her big sisters inability to be happy. This being said all she wants to do when the big kids are home is play with them. So she is busily buggin her big sissy to play anything with her.

This usually results in crying from both parties and slamming doors on her way to her room ( guess who) and a sad tear stained little face who doesn't understand.

However this morning was different for about twenty minutes. Oldest child emerged from her room with a smile and clean clothes on. Joined the baby for a baby Einstein movie and then commenced to play babies happily with her sister.  It is my own personal Christmas miracle for so many reasons.  For me watching them play together is the best moment as a mother.  Seeing my babies love each other and work through differences together is so awesome.

I did jinx myself when I sat down to type this out for you all because of course it couldn't last forever, big ones in time out again and baby is playing blocks by herself. Win some and loose some I guess. Here is a quick pic of the peace while it lasted, hope you get your Christmas miracle this year, even if it is just 20 minutes of peace.
