You've got your family session all booked and planned. Now what? Time to pick out what to wear! Choosing outfits can be overwhelming and it's hard to know where to start. Here are some great tips and tricks to make your Little Mother Photography session the best possible.
Stick to solids. Patterns and graphics can take away from your smiling faces. Consider dressing the family in solid colors instead.
Matching colors is a great idea. Putting everyone in the same color is a good way to make everything look cohesive. Shades of some colors can be difficult to match, so consider matching whites and blacks, or (sometimes better), choose a great accent color. Instead of washing everyone out with a bold color choose a bold color to use as an accent.
Wearing patterns? Don't get too crazy! Buffalo plaid is always nice (in moderation), minimal floral accents are also beautiful.
Leave the hats, sunglasses at home. Don't get too crazy with accessories and things that cover your face. You want your faces to be the focal point of your portraits, these things can be distracting!
I'll always do everything I can to help you look your best. It helps when you do your part too! Planning outfits well in advance helps you to relax and take the pressure off the day of photos. You should enjoy your portrait session experience, and it will help you if you feel and look your best!
You may be surprised to learn photography was not always my passion; it was an accidental direction taken when God put this path in front of me. When I had my children, I fell in love with newborn and child photography. In 2013 my children were 4, 3, and 1. As busy as I was raising a family, I wanted to share my talents with others, so I started Little Mother Photography.
When I became "official" a few close friends and family members started paying me for my services. I am forever grateful for those individuals who took a leap of faith and hired me when I first started. Some are still clients to this day! Others have moved away and I love keeping up with them on social media.
I reinvested every penny those first few years. I upgraded equipment, bought props and accessories, invested in a studio space, paid for a website, and paid for classes and training for myself. Each deposit and session fee helped me to reach new milestones and grow.
When I started Little Mother Photography I had no idea how successful it would be. What began as a hobby to make a little money on the side has since become a full-time occupation for me. I love it.
Six of my favorite images from recent sessions are pictured below. Enjoy!
Take a look at your favorite pictures of your children… Where are you in these images? If you’re like me, you’re the one taking the photos, or maybe you have a few cute selfies with you in them as well. I want to challenge you to get in front of the camera! Years from now your children will want to see you in the pictures. They won’t care that you still have some baby weight, that your hair isn’t exactly how you want it to be. They’ll remember the moment, your smile and laugh. They’ll cherish the memory.
I am so excited for this upcoming mini session: “Mommy and Me”! We’re making memories; not just taking photos. These images are designed to be treasured for generations. Each session is styled individually to make you look and feel beautiful. I’ll work with you to find an outfit that you feel fantastic in. I’m highly experienced in finding flattering angles and lighting for you to look your best. I know how important it is to feel comfortable and relaxed during the shoot. Most importantly? These sessions are designed to be fun! I’m after real, genuine laughs and smiles. This is a time for you and your children to relax, have fun, and make memories.
After your session, we’ll work together to select images that you LOVE, and, if you’d like, I can use some of my Photoshop magic to help you look like your best self ;)

Below are some of my favorite mommy and me images from my own shoot, enjoy!
Baby, it’s cold outside, but it is HOT in the Little Mother Photography Studio!
Our first Flirt Marathon wrapped up not too long ago, and it was INCREDIBLE! 9 BEAUTIFUL women came to celebrate themselves and get some fun, flirty, sassy, (dare I say SEXY?) photos.
Each session was SO MUCH FUN! Everyone came excited and had a great time (me especially!) The ladies arrived a little before their scheduled session time, which allowed for time to get dressed up; picking out outfits and accessories was half the fun! Then it was time for hair and makeup. I thought it important that each woman get the VIP treatment and feel like a queen. Our hair and makeup artists did an AMAZING job making each woman look beautiful.
I was blown away by how many GENUINE smiles, laughs, and JOY were this event. Empowering women and helping them feel happy is one of the favorite parts of my job.
Interested in doing a Flirt Session of your own? I'm hosting another Flirt Marathon in Saturday, July 6. Limited spaces are available at this event, purchase yours here. The July marathon will have a boho theme. Check out these inspiration images to see the session's vibe.
Can't make the marathon event, or want to do it sooner? You can still schedule your own private flirt event too, just contact me!

When you support Little Mother Photography, you are supporting local families who otherwise may not be able to afford professional photos. Every newborn and maternity session I gift to these deserving photos is because you chose me to be your photographer. To you I am so grateful!
When I started Little Mother Photography I knew giving back needed to be an important part of my business plan. One way I give back is through an organization I am on the board of: Guiding Star of Mid Missouri. Guiding Star is a nation-wide pregnancy resource organization founded to help pregnant women and new mothers find assistance, education, and intervention when needed. In our Mid-Missouri chapter of Guiding Star we have helped dozens of women in need right here in Phelps County. I donate my services regularly to these families who may not otherwise be able to afford maternity and newborn photography. It is a privilege and an honor that these families allow me into their lives to capture these tender moments.
Many of the photographs on my website and social media are of these families. I do not think it appropriate or relevant to call out specifically which sessions have been gifted, everyone gets the same (might I say stellar?!) Little Mother Photography treatment when I work with them! Please enjoy this gallery of newborn babies, some of my absolute favorites from this past year. By you hiring Little Mother Photography, I have the resources to provide professional photos to these deserving families.
Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, and may God bless you and yours.
As the 2018 holiday season gets started I can’t help but sit back and think about how blessed I am, about all of the things I am so thankful for.
My wonderful husband, Matt, who always supports my dreams and goals. I couldn’t be where I am today were it not for his undying love and support. He is the yin to my yang, my partner and my soulmate.
My three amazing kids. Haylee has become such a wonderful independent young woman, impressing me every day with her wit and personality. Whitten has grown into such a handsome young man, full of charm and always making us laugh. And Ainslee, such a quick learner and sharp young girl. I'm so lucky to be your mom.
What I started in 2013 with a few close friends and family as clients has grown and flourished in ways I never could have dreamed. I’ve been able to keep Theresa Weidner on part-time, and in 2018 the Little Mother Photography team grew even more, and Torie Hance was welcomed as an additional photographer.
2018 has been Little Mother Photography’s biggest and most successful year. We gained more clients, and scheduled more shoots than ever before. And YOU help make it possible. Every session you purchase, every one of my social media posts you comment on or “like” help me to grow and expand my business, but even more, lets me continue to do what I love: create timeless photography for you and your loved ones. From the bottom of my heart: thank you for your love and support now and always.
Your bundle of joy is the most important thing in your life, and keeping babies safe is always our number one priority!
The Little Mother Photography studio is always cleaned and sanitized before your newborn photo shoot (outfits, backdrops and props included!) Kandi always washes her hands plenty and keeps a bottle of hand sanitizer nearby when preparing for and performing the shoots. We love outdoor sessions, but we only take newborns outside if the weather permits.
The entire Little Mother Photography team is fully vaccinated. Every year we get our flu shots, and make sure our whooping cough (Tdap) vaccine. We never hesitate to reschedule an appointment if we are feeling under the weather. We would rather cause a minor inconvenience than risk spreading germs to your newborn.
Keeping your babies and families safe, happy, and healthy is our primary goal when working with you!
The Little Mother Photography team has grown! Theresa's son, Gabriel, was born Monday, October 8. You may remember seeing her maternity photos in our last blog post, we hope you'll now enjoy his BEAUTIFUL newborn photos now. It took a bit, but Kandi (aka the baby whisperer) worked her magic and got Gabe to sleep peacefully for the duration of the shoot. The result? Magical, beautiful images that Theresa and her family will TREASURE forever!
Kandi went above and beyond with this photo session! She had just gotten in a few brand new outfits all of the way from Italy; of course Gabriel was excited to model them. <3 <3 <3
And two sets with tiny beds? Oh my goodness, the cuteness!
Kandi even thought ahead to Christmas and did a special holiday set. What an ADORABLE sleeping Santa.
The weather cooperated and we were able to get some awesome family images outside! Unfortunately Gabriel's big sister, Bernice was less than excited for the photos (and her baby brother in general), but we're working on that!
Welcome little Gabe! We're ABSOLUTELY smitten.
Today’s blog post will feature a different point of view: Theresa Weidner. Theresa is my friend, and associate at Little Mother Photography. I hope you will enjoy!
Is it just me, or does some of the magic of the first pregnancy disappear for the sequential ones? The excitement, joy and surprise that accompanied your first born can seem muted and lesser. This time around I am raising a toddler, am heavier than I’ve ever been, and am more exhausted than ever. I’ve not been taking the weekly (okay, daily sometimes!) bump photos like I did with my daughter. I’ve not been journaling or posting to social media nearly as much this time around.
Initially, I didn’t think I’d want maternity photos for my second child. I already had them from when I was pregnant with my daughter; why did I need more? In my second trimester, I changed my mind. I needed a boost, a thing for myself, and I wanted to feel pretty; Little Mother photography helped me to do just that. I wanted this baby to be able to see me pregnant with them. In looking at my own family photos I’ve only been able to find one photo of my mom carrying me, and it’s a special image I treasure. In the age of social media, oversharing, and excessive photo taking I wanted this child to have these images.
It wasn’t easy to convince my husband to go along with this. He doesn’t seem to value family photos to the same extent that I do. He already had posed, smiled, (and paid for) images of me with a big belly the first time around, why did he need to do it again? Luckily he was a good sport and went along with it. The results were magical. We now have beautiful images capturing our growing family. In one way the session captured an ending: the final portraits depicting us as a family of three; but even better, they capture new beginnings. They depict our beautiful growing family in the most magical way imaginable.
Maternity portraits are a personal choice, and not for everyone. I don’t know if this will be our last pregnancy or not, but if it is I won’t have any regrets about not capturing it. I’m so glad I had Little Mother Photography capture this wonderful time in my family’s journey.
We are beyond excited to announce we now have a dedicated senior photographer! Welcome to the team, Torie Hance! Torie is energetic talented and we think you will love, love, LOVE her unique approach to senior portraits.
Torie combines candid, un-posed images along with traditional styles. We’ve featured some of her work in this blog post for you to admire.
Senior portraits are a fun way to create timeless memories. What a wonderful way to document such a special time in your life.
