So many times I get an email, or Facebook message, or phone call from mommas worried about maternity photography.
So many mommas want beautiful images of themselves while they are pregnant and feeling full of life, glowing and sporting a beautiful round bump. But, they feel self conscious, worried about their weight gain, anxious about how they look.
Other frequent concerns are, what do I wear? Nothing I own fits any more, I don't have anything pretty in my size.
Todays, blog is to lay all those uneases to rest, answer those questions and create a forum for other questions to be posted and answered.
Q) I don't like the way I look, can you make me look skinny?
A) Well I am not a magician, however I can pose your body in a way that is flattering, and accentuates your bump, not your lumps. I can accentuate the good and not the bad. Using lighting, poses, and draping we can make you your most beautiful pregnant self.
Q) I don't have anything to wear!
A) Girls I feel you! I remember how miserable that last month of pregnancy is, how big your bump is and how difficult it can be to feel fabulous! Never fear mommas, I have an ever growing wardrobe of gowns, skirts, tops, shorts, and wraps. Enough options in enough levels of modesty to suite any ones desires. One of the perks of my Bump sessions is access to the wardrobe!
Q) Can my spouse/ partner and other children be in the pictures.
A) OF COURSE! I always welcome families in my Maternity sessions. When a momma wants family included I always recommend doing your session in two parts. First a family portrait style session, with the littles and daddy. Then I suggest moving into a more momma centered focus with mom alone in the studio. Thats when we can really delve into the gorgeous maternity images that every momma wants for herself.
Q) When do I need to schedule my maternity session?
A) I recommend between 33-37 weeks, unless your Dr. has mentioned that you may need to deliver before 33 weeks. Also it will depend on how much of a bump you have, if your not really showing you may want to wait till closer to 37 weeks.
Q) How long will the session last?
A) Usually a maternity session will last about one hour, especially if you choose a family and single person break out. I like to show each portion of the session equal time and alway allow momma breaks as needed. Sometimes mommas need to rest and drink some water!
I think this covers all the questions I am asked with some regularity. However I would love to answer any more you may have! Leave them in the comments section and I will answer them for you.
Here are some images from a recent Maternity Model call. Enjoy!
Phew, it has been a busy whirlwind of the last few months! I have been shooting babies left and right. Such a blessing to be so busy. However it does keep me from posting blogs about each session, and keeping you all up to date on the happenings in the studio.
So heres a quick recap on the chaos.
Last month I finally broke down and admitted I couldn't do it all my self (who knew?!?!?). So I placed an ad looking for someone to help me create ads! God was looking out and send me T. She is amazing! I am so excited to ad her to my team. T is the genius behind the new website, all the new ad content that goes out weekly, as well as a fantastic sounding board for some of my crazy ideas. T also has helped me stream line my social media presence, thats right folks I am on twitter, instagram, Facebook, and google plus. IM EVERYWHERE!!! (next up world domination j/k)
In all reality in todays world being visible on social media platforms is a must so I am every so grateful to have that process streamlined!
Another big project T has been instrumental in making happen is the online registry, and store on the website. ( this website your on right now!) How awesome is this, no more 800 receiving blankets at your baby shower, tell your family and friends your registered with Little Mother Photography and they can purchase gift cards for your newborn session! How awesome!
The process is simple, contact me through the website (this one you are currently on!) Say Hey Kandi, I want to create a registry. I will discuss package options with you, then create a SKU for your personal registry. You then direct folks to the website www.littlemotherphotography.com find your registry under registry's tab and purchase the preferred amount.
Twins, every newborn photographers dream, and nightmare rolled into two adorable packages!
This particular set of baby girls was such a blessing to their surprised parents, and to me. I was actively seeking multiples to full fill a personal challenge and improve my skill in photographing more than one baby.
When working with twins its literally double the potty accidents, double and possibility of making one baby mad while posing, and double the opportunity for a gorgeous image!
I was so excited to get to work with these little girls, especially when mom told me she wanted a purple session. Its like she read my mind, purple is my color. When I take stock of what I have on hand its always more purple than anything els.
So when I planned this session I pulled all my purples shades, and using some adorable tie backs from Positively Whimsy. I created this adorable session for these darling girls.
As usual I started the girls on the floor with baskets and furs. On the outset one of the girls was cranky and out of sorts, after some swaddling and snuggling she settled long enough to get a few shots. Mom and dad kept telling me she was the cranky one. When we transitioned to the bean bag, it was as if the girls had a personality switch and sister was cranky and fussy, while the formerly fussy baby snoozed like a champ! It was hilarious how quickly and seamlessly they traded.
This session may be one of my most favorite, ever. The images are soft, and still powerful. The overall styling speaks clearly of my aesthetic, and the posing and lighting are just spot on for the look I love.
My job is such a blessing and working with all my families, and their babies makes me fall in love with it nearly every day all over again. I spent so many years of my life having, nursing, and raising little bitty babies, and now that all my little ones are off to school, I miss those moments. It is so sweet to be able to snatch some baby snuggles, and little sweet moments in the studio.
Double the snuggles with this session, and so much fun to play with all my purples. Here are my favorite outtakes from this one, enjoy...
I love my job, really its fantastic.
This handsome little dudes momma contacted me and scheduled a meeting just a few days before she was due to be induced. We had a lovely chat, and determined the direction she wanted her sons sessions to go. Choosing colors, props, poses, and even sharing with me her desire to showcase her husbands marine uniform in the session.
There is absolutely nothing I love better than meeting with moms and dads before baby comes. It gives me an insight to their style, and personality. Truly it helps me plan a session specifically catered to them.
After mom and I parted ways I went into what I call the waiting game. I secretly sit at home and wait anxiously for the message, email or phone call announcing the arrival of your little one. My husband thinks I am crazy when I do my little happy dance, its so exciting to work with all of you!
So finally this little man arrived and after a slightly longer than normal stay in the hospital we were scheduled to shoot his newborn session. IT WAS AWESOME!
Despite being a little fussy at the beginning he settled right in and rocked all his poses, even the ever intimidating baby on marine dress hat!
I was so honored to photograph this family and their newest little guy. Being so close to the army base Fort Leonardwood, I am blessed to work with many military families, it is very humbling to meet these folks who serve our country, and to be asked to capture their most important memories.
Thank you to all who serve, and thank you to this little guy, for putting me through my paces, and for letting me put him through his.
Here are some of my top picks from his session.
