Please note: none of the photos (except for the last one) were taken by Little Mother Photography.
We have officially finished our first round of unicorn special sessions! Little Mother Photography spent two Saturdays taking photographs in St. James. A total of 19 sessions were done! After shooting, Kandi spent the better part of two weeks editing the photos. Overall the results were magical and the experience was memorable.
The sessions were booked weeks in advance. We started with only 1 day, but as the sessions were so popular, (and booked completely so quickly), we added a second! Everyone arrived early for their session, which made everything run smoothly, and allowed for maximum time for the children to pick out a perfect outfit, headpiece (if they wanted one), and get to know Snowflake before their session. One little girl brought her own sword and shield to do her own warrior poses!
Many children were brave and confident enough to get up on Snowflake’s back, which resulted in some amazing images! Some families came as a group to take advantage of this opportunity; something that is encouraged for almost any of our sessions. People traveled as far as Springfield, and Ozark, Missouri to meet Snowflake!
You may be surprised to learn that Snowflake is a deaf unicorn. Her mainly white coat and bright blue eyes, (with irises splashing into the pupil) are very common in deaf animals. Perhaps because of her hearing impairment Snowflake prefers to be in the company of other horses. Both days she had a friend accompany her to the photoshoot. All of our children (and parents) were very understanding and were good about not making any sudden movements and only walking in front of her.
We can’t wait to do another special unicorn session next spring (2018). Please watch our Facebook page closely for this and other special events!

Family photographs will be admired for generations. Below are the top ten Dos and Don’ts that we have learned over the years of creating these memories. Photographing growing families is what we love to do. Questions, comments, or did we miss one? Leave comments in our blog below!
Do dress appropriately no graphics words distracting prints. We want your beautiful faces to be the focal point of your portrait. Not sure what to wear? Just ask! We are happy to work with you to figure out outfits ahead of time (or bring a few options with you). We also have an ever-changing wardrobe and accessory closet to help as well. You’re welcome to communicate outfit choices with us ahead of time, or come by the studio before your shoot to see what we have available.
Do work the color wheel. Complimentary colors are always nice to look at. When in doubt: solid neutrals are always a great bet!
Do be prompt and ready to shoot. We are moms ourselves, and understand it can be super hard to get everyone clean, fed, and out of the house in a timely matter; but please do your best! You are always welcome to try and arrive a bit early, give snacks at the studio, nurse, and whatever else you need to do.
Do make sure everyone is relaxed and ready to play. This means everyone being well rested and fed ahead of time. We know this isn’t always possible, but anything you can do to help tilt the odds in our favor is greatly appreciated (and will result in the best photos possible!)
Don't stress. Your session should be fun and relaxing. If you’re stressed, anxious, or worried it will show in your photos! We know what we’re doing; you’re in good hands.
Don't bribe your kids before. Let the photog use that as needed through the session. We know some bribing may be unavoidable, but letting us coax or persuade the children during the shoot is usually much more effective!
Don't expect perfection. We specialize in simple, natural and timeless. We don’t do overly photoshopped or unrealistic. Of course we will work with you on posing we won’t make you look over-staged or unnatural.
Don't forget: we’re the experts and you’re paying us to do our job. Let us direct the shoot, and make your family portraits as fantastic as possible.
Don't get caught up in the trends on Pinterest! Trends and fads come and go, but these photos are yours forever. Be unique and original just like your family is.
Don't forget to hang your images. We are creating artwork, which is meant to be displayed. Let us work with your budget to create memories to go on your walls. We work with the top printing and canvas creating locations in the country (they work with professional photographers exclusively) to get the highest quality, best looking images. No one can see your beautiful family on a flash drive!

So, it has been quite some time since I have been able to sit down and blog for you all. What an appropriate subject to get back on track with.
Miss Laalee is the beautiful rainbow baby of a friend of mine. Rainbow babies are babies born after a family has lost a child. In theory, they are the rainbow after the storm. Laalee is defiantly a rainbow. She was born at thirty three weeks via emergency c-section. Airvacced to St. Louis Children’s. From the beginning her doctors and nurses observed that Laalee was fierce and a fighter. Her momma was able to travel and join her two days after she was born.
About the time momma was able to be with her in the NICU, Miss Laalee relieved herself of her IV at just five days old (34 weeks gestation) she decided enough was enough. Shortly after she was taking only breastmilk in her feeding tube. (For those of you who don't know, most premies are given fortifier to help them gain weight, and maintain heartrate.)
Just two days later she was off oxygen and started trying to suck (another huge milestone for NICU babies). Within a few days she was nursing and bottle feeding! What a fighter! After taking out her ng tube and taking more and more feedings by mouth Miss Laalee was released from the hospital and able to be at home after only 18 days in the NICU, on the day she would have been 36 weeks gestation. Since being home she has refused bottles, takes all her food direct from the source and is thriving!
I was honored to be able to gift this family with a Newborn Photography Session, little Miss slept like a rock the entire time. However, I did get to see her fighting spirit, she did not like certain poses and refused to relax into them, all while still sound asleep. It was comical, so I did what I do and rolled with it!
Thank you Miss Laalee for being a rainbow and sign of hope for all of us.
